Resident Evil 5

Day 1:

I have to say this game isn't Resident Evil. Well, it is, technically, but it's not like the rest of the franchise. Swaying away from the tradition of being a survival horror game and focusing on action. Resident Evil 5 isn't scary whatsoever, but more so intense action that Resident Evil 4 executed flawlessly.

With more over the top moments than any other entry in the franchise, Resident Evil 5 is a worthy contender at being a very likeable blockbuster. But that's where the problem is. Throughout the game it feels like another game in a different genre altogether. Adding to the storyline and revisiting old characters are the only aspects that are comparable. RE4's gameplay, sure, and even the fact you kill "zombies" but other than the obvious, nothing.

Sheva - Chris's partner throughout the game - is a moron. How she is portrayed, no, but her AI is painfully stupid. She doesn't respond right away to commands of any kind, she doesn't shoot to kill all the time (mainly when it's needed), and she has more trouble finding her way around than myself.

The storyline isn't interesting neither. Casual Friday anyone? Also many things from Resident Evil 4 are present like El Gigante and chainsaw villagers. Aside from bosses nothing really new to soak up.

I'm at chapter 4-2 after a few days of tediously progressing. I've seen the game through and through before, the only difference is that now I'm playing through it fully. Not impressed from a Resident Evil standpoint, but slightly intrigued from an action game point of view.
